I confess, I have been a diaper brand snob. Up until recently every pack of diapers I stockpiled was either a Huggies or Pampers pack. Even Luvs wasn’t good enough for me.
But the great sales Walgreens has had on their store brand diapers were too good for me to pass up. This week I decided to rip open a package and boy was I pleasantly surprised!
In my opinion Walgreens brand diapers are very similar to Huggies brand diapers. They are very absorbent although I still haven’t tried them overnight on my eight month old. But they make the cut during the day. My son is also on solids now and past the initial days of explosive diapers so I can’t give a recommendation for their performance on smaller babies.
The only odd thing about them I have found is that they have a small gathering in the front of the diaper. I don’t understand why that is there. The tabs are a little stiff but they have kept in place so far. But you can see in the picture they fit the baby very well.
I just wanted to give you my impression of these diapers. I know a lot of people have been hesitant to try them. I wrote earlier this week about a way to get them cheap. But you can read how Christina at Northern Cheapskate made the deal even sweeter here.
I know there are other people out there who have tried them, I would love to hear your impressions. Would you recommend them for smaller babies? have they worked out overnight for you?

Hi! I am Mercedes and this is my blog Common Sense with Money! Helping other people live better, spend less, and save more is something I am very passionate about. I combine simple frugal living tips and smart shopping techniques to help moms across the U.S. become better home economists. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I also like these diapers. My 4 year old still wears a diaper at night, so I wanted to find the cheapest quality diaper.
These fit her really well and she has not had any leaks at night. I used to buy the Target brand diapers, but these are much better.
I just wish I would have tried them when she was younger. Just think of all of the money I would have saved!
Second “mom mom’s” comment! These are fabulous for the price. DD is 14 months old and no accidents with them yet, even overnight! We tried them for the first time a month or so ago when the coupon deals made them- are you ready for this?- about .58 each pack!! (How could you NOT try?!?) But look for the newer packs (in size 4, the new ones are light green)the tabs are much more user friendly and the diapers seem even better made.HTH
These are the best generic diapers I have ever tried. I have gone through 3-4 packs without any leaks on my 9 month old. I would highly recommend these, especially for the price!
It’t true! They are great diapers! They withstand my twin boys with flying colors!
I’ve only used Pampers and scared to try any others. We started out on Huggies (what the hospital gave us), but they always leaked. I WISH I could find some cheap ones that work just as well…overnight scares me, too! I have a 15 month old.

I was a total diaper snob..only HUGGIES! LOL! But now with 3 kids, I really started to live frugally, we NEED to! When you posted about the Walgreens diaper deals previously, I stocked up and RETURNED the Huggies at Costco.
175 diapers @ Costco=$40
180 diapers @ Walgreens=$16
My baby is 21 months and only had 1 accident-he had a bad tummy and had a blow out diaper
We even use it overnight and it works great!
thanks for leaving comments!
for the price, I’ll have to go buy some.
I am really happy to hear other people have also had a positive experience with these diapers. I may pick up a couple of more packs this week as well.
I agree with you on the diapers. With my first child I tried the Walmart brand and hated them. that is when I became a diaper snob, but now with my 3rd child I really needed a good buy. I bought a bunch a couple of weeks ago when the easy saver coupons overlapped. I have had no problems except that they seem to run a little small. I do not think the size 3 will fit my baby as long as they say. He is 18 lbs and they already seem a little snug.
I always used these, on my 2nd & 3rd kid, lol.
Thanks for this info! I too am a diaper snob, but if my daughter is in diapers much longer I may just start going the generic route…
Emelyn,
Thank you for putting the cost of the diapers in that perspective.
Marcy, for the price definitely give them a try even if just one pack.
Thanks for the post, Mercedes, and thanks to your readers for the comments. Thanks to your votes of confidence in these diapers, I’m going to pick some up this week!
I really appreciate this post and all the comments. It’s hard to feel like you might be wasting money on diapers you aren’t sure will work well. I picked some up yesterday and plan to go back for more tomorrow.

All Walgreens brand products are 100% guaranteed. If you’re curious (but scared!) to try them, you have nothing to worry about. If you try it and are dissatisfied because they weren’t as good as the national brand, let them know and they will refund your money. I know it’s said on TV, radio, and ads a lot, but it’s absolutely true. Customer satisfaction is high on their priority list and they do mean, and follow through, with their promises. =]
YES!!! they ARE! i prefer huggies but sometimes due to financial crunch have to buy generic, which typically don’t stick well and leak but i’m loving the Walgreens ones!!!
Not only are they great but I love that they every couple weeks run a decent sale on them as well. I have strictly used this brand since discovering them with my first unless I get free name brand. But especially with my second they are the only ones I have found that can handle the “load” w/o leaking even over the name brand.
I wanted to update that I tried them overnight with my eigh month old and not one leak. he still wakes up twice in the night to feed so you get the idea of how full the diaper could get.
I just wanted to say that I was a diaper snob until I needed to live more frugally. Just to aid in helping my hubs checks go farther and get out of debt. my daughter wears them all the time and they work wonderfully. She is around 35 lbs and still in size 5 which fit just about perfect. I would honestly have to say that they compare directly to huggies because that is all that I used except for what I was given.
I try not to give her much to drink before bed, after supper and we rarely have a leak just once a month if that and its just cuz I am not paying attention. She sleeps 10 to 12 hours a night too. Hope that helps. I do know from a friend that says they seem to be sized a bit smaller in the smaller diaper sizes but I think the size 5′s fit mine better/loser than huggies did. Thanks.
I really like the Walgreens diapers! I haven’t used them overnight but they’ve been just fine during the day. I actually like them better than the Kirkland brand and when they had that great deal last month, it was so much cheaper. I typically use Pampers at night.
