Vinegar is your BFF (Best Frugal Friend)

Before picture: soaking in vinegar

Vinegar is one of those topics every frugal blogger has talked about at least once. I didn’t want to break protocol.

Besides using vinegar to clean my bathrooms I love to use vinegar to clean my pots. Before I found out about vinegar’s other uses I would spend a lot of time scrubbing greasy grime off cookie sheets or pans. Now I let these items soak in vinegar for a few hours (depending on grime level) before I scrub. Vinegar cuts through this grease and makes wiping it off a breeze.

For more than a thousand uses for plain old white vinegar check this site.

I loves me some vinegar! It’s my #1 tool for cleaning. Great before and after example!

It makes a good hair rinse also. I like it better than conditioner.

I’ve been using white vinegar in my washing machine for a month or two and my clothes are brighter and I have stopped buying fabric softener sheets. I buy gallons at the store, and it is just so inexpensive!

Another thing we used it for was to fill a spray bottle with diluted white vinegar and use to remove wallpaper border from prior homeowners. Worked like a charm — the 8 year old was able to get most off with this technique.

Sonia,
I find that when you are cleaning with vinegar it does initially smell like vinegar but then it doesn’t smell like anything. That is what I really like about it, you can go into your bathroom, look how bright and clean it is and smell nothing. I guess that is what clean is supposed to smell like instead of some artificial scent.

Vinegar is wonderful, & I didn't know that it would clean grease like that. The smell is BIG problem for us, but I do like to use vinegar in the laundry & in a spray bottle for the garbage–the smell makes the dogs stay away from the trash!

To fix the smell issue, just get scented oil from your health food store. I add a few drops of lemon oil and the smell is gone.
