My DH used to work at Kmart in HS/college and he said to never use layaway. He says it unbelievable how the merchandise is treated while it is being stored. Mislabeled, thrown around, walked on, etc. So many parents would be in tears b/c they went to pick up their stuff and it would be missing or broken. If they had the “hot” toy of the season, they couldn’t get another one.

I have never used a layaway program that had a fee.

I have never used these programs, but as surprised at how much the fees are. Thanks for letting people know.

That would be an expensive fee to pay for storage don’t you think? You are better off talking to a friend about borrowing some garage space.

Layaway is typically a bad option financially, but it can work out if parents don’t have a place to stash large items, such as a children’s bike, before Christmas.
