I have had my iphone for several months & I completely agree with your review of it's usefulness. I also want to thank you for writing about the Grocery Gadget. I have wanted to find a application for creating an grocery price Book and this one seems much better than others and less expensive than others.

I am tempted to get an iphone for the reasons you described in your post - it does seem it would make life a lot easier. But I also know that I struggle enough as it is with being distracted at home by the internet while my son is around, and I'm not sure I want to create even more of an opportunity to be looking at one more thing other than him. I don't think this is the case with other moms with smart phones, though, I just know that it's one of the reasons aside from the cost of the thing that has dissuaded me so far.

I have to say that my blackberry curve costs $45 a month for the phone and texting and $25 extra a month for the internet access. I do not get very many services out where I live. My phone bill is about $73 a month. I am a very frugal person and would normally say this is outrageous but the benefits greatly outweigh the cost in my mind.

OK, I've been on the fence about getting an iPhone. The Shazam app, among others, was really tempting.

But recipe spinners? Accessing WordPress?

You're making this very difficult for me :P

I bought a blackberry six months ago and love it!! If I had to do it over again I would have splurged for the I-Phone but I still love my blackberry. I always forget my list from this website when I go to the store and I am always looking this website up once I get to the store. I honestly do no know how I lived without it.

I have had my iPhone for about 7 weeks and I love it! I use it so much, everyday. I find it so useful in helping with my daily life. I love it so much that I rarely use my home computer Internet. My husband gave me my phone for our 11 year anniversary. We have 2 kids and I have used it for mutiple things for them. I like that it has everything I need together like my phone, computer and iPod. I rarely pay for any applications and even have a Bible application which let's me have access to God's Word anywhere and I can even take notes. I think that I have by far used my phones worth. I find new things about it everyday.

After you explained your plan, it doesnt sound so bad after all. Thanks for explaining. I know Metro PCS isnt availabkle iin alot of areas, luckily it is here in Dallas though. Boost Mobile is also offered in alot of areas for the flat rate unlimited plans. They are only $50/month, but I dont think they offer any Smart Phones.

Hi Heather,

That was my mistake, I meant to say the Blackberry storm. I have updated my post for the change. So I appreciate your comment but there are a few things you are missing. One, I don't live in your area so the cellular companies that work well in your area may or may not work in mine. That's why I mentioned that I considered the phone and cell phone carriers when making my decision. Also, I can't speak about any Blackberry because I have never used it, so I can't support what I have not used. However, I do speak in my post about the benefits of Smartphones and what they may bring to people. A comparison between an iPhone and a BB Curve is not quite apples to apples. This is the reason I went over the applications I had downloaded on my Smartphone and how they helped "me."

Finally, just to prove the point that you have a good cell phone carrier, the data plan for the blackberry my cell phone provider offered is $30 a month for web and email only and $45 for the unlimited data plan.
Just some things to keep in mind to help explain why some things make sense to some people and they don't to others.

Wow, an extra $30 on TOP of your monthly plan? I'll stick with the Blackberry Curve on Metro PCS for a flat fee of $50 a month for unlimited talk/text. internet, etc., thank you very much. I'm kinda disappointed in your choice and your promoting of the iphone with its ridiculous costs when your blog is called Common Sense with Money. Because that's just not good common sense if you ask me. Sorry.

I'm new to couponing, but I'm loving it. The thing that bothered me the most was not having an easy way to search through my coupons. I'm very much a digital girl, so I wanted to keep track of them on my computer or iPod Touch (which is the same as the iPhone, minus the phone). Luckily, my husband is a computer programmer and is experienced with iPhone programming. We've been seriously discussing putting together a couponing app for the iPhone... some way to keep track of coupons you have, match store and manufacturer's coupons automatically, and mark when you've used them, etc. However, being new to the whole couponing gig, I'm not convinced that my view of what such an app would need is the whole picture. Is something like that something that you think would be useful to the couponing world? Is there anything in particular you would want in an app like that? Is there another app you wish were out there? If this is something you'd be interested in, please email me so we can talk more. tiannahomer at gmail dot com.

hey Denise,

You need to start downloading applications!! A lot of them are free and there are quite a few I didn't mention. You can listen to free music online with pandora. the All recipes app is free too. Just click on the app store image on your phone and it will take you to the store. if you haven't set up an account. But if you choose only free apps then you won't have any charges. Then you can search all of the applications for what you are interested in. You are wasting a valuable resource!

I have had my iphone for 6 months and only use it as a phone and to watch Gilmore Girl clips off You tube. I have no clue how to do all the things you are doing. I would love to be able to have my shopping lists on my phone. Where do go to learn how to actually use the features the phone has. I think I must just be too old for this technology! LOL
