It’s been a while since I have done a round up of my favorite reads for the week. I hope you enjoy these as much as I have:
- Did you print and use the Free Quizno’s sub coupon I blogged about earlier in the week? If you did, let me tell you, you were lucky. From what I am reading people had a lot of problems redeeming these coupons: stores refusing to take them or changing the terms of the coupon. Talk about a good idea that was very poorly thought through. Corporate decided to go ahead with the promotion even though franchises were against it. Read more about this yourself, so you can find out why it all went so wrong.
- Consumer Reports warns of other companies going bankrupt and what you can do to make sure you can redeem your gift cards and take care of returns and exchanges.
- I really enjoyed reading these three entries by Cathy from Chief Family Officer: Recent Incidents when I spent money and It Was good, Recent Incidents when I Spent Money and it Was Bad, Recent Incidents When I didn’t Spend Money and It was Bad – or not. The reason I liked these entries is because it brought on a new perspective of how to evaluate the way we spend money. Looking back at the last week I can pinpoint at a lot of incidents when I spent money and it was bad but I am also sure there were some that were good.
- I also found this entry by Angie, The Thrifty Florida Mama very thought provoking: Thoughts on Frugal Foods and Recipes. She realizes how you can possibly save more by stockpiling the basic staples such as flour, rice instead of quick meals like Rice a Roni or Totino’s Pizza Rolls. The benefit in stockpiling staples is that you have basic ingredients you can use to create a wide variety of meals. Stockpiling prepared meals doesn’t give you the same flexibility.
- Trent from the Simple Dollar shows you how to make bulk breakfast burritos. Burritos are a very frugal way to stretch meat. Last week I made burritos using spanish rice, beans and one chicken breast. I made a total of six burritos. You couldn’t feed a family of six with one chicken breast as easily and as satisfyingly as this. Crystal, the Money Saving Mom, shows you how to make pizza in 30 minutes or less! I love making homemade pizza. You can find my recipe here. I also make pepperoni rolls using the same dough recipe.
Enjoy!

I was one of the customers that wasted my time printing out the coupon, wasting my gas going to Quiznos, only to be turned away by a big ass “No coupons” sign. I felt that if Quiznos was going to have this giveaway, they should make sure that nobody is turned away. They should’ve made sure managers know that they were going to be reimbursed for it. Maybe an incentive would be good to get them going.
Hopefully they will give everybody that signed up a gift card (whether they used their coupons or not). That was a waste of time and money. It’s bad enough that the Quiznos that I went to never want to fix your sandwich the way you want it. I ended up spending 6 dollars to get a sandwich that was not even supposed to have onions in it.
I printed the Quiznos coupon & used it Friday. I had no problem using my coupon, in fact I didn’t even have to pay the tax on the sub, & the sub wasn’t bad. Thank’s for letting us know about the coupon. Christine
Wow, Quizo’s certainly didn’t think that through — the bad publicity this has generated can’t be good for them. We were fortunate to have our local Quizno’s honor the coupon. I had never been to Quizno’s before, but had a good experience and will probably go back. I should probably write the owner of the store a letter complimenting the two teenagers who helped us (great attitude even though they were new and learning).
I printed and used my coupon last week with no problems, The coupon did clearly state for participating stores so I asked before I ordered.
I didn’t have any trouble using mine. They didn’t ask for ID and said they were allowed to accept the first 200 coupons. The sandwich was okay but I wouldn’t pay full price for it.
Wow! Thanks for the link up Mercedes! I’m still thinking about how to best serve my family healthy, frugal meals whether it be from a box or from scratch. With my kids getting older it is getting more challenging. This is going to be a trial month for me where I cook from scratch for the first two weeks and more from convienence/deal foods the last two weeks. I’m going to blog about my experiences- financially, emotionally, nutritionally, and time-wise from both sides. Your readers are certainly welcome to follow along.
Sincerely,
Angie

My husband and I had no problem cashing in our Quiznos coupons. We made them combos with a drink and chips and paid $2.11 total. Sweet deal.
Thanks for the link love, Mercedes!
Thanks so much for the notice, I printed out the coupon and went to my corner Quiznos and had no problem! Great sandwich and loved it so I will probably return, especially since it is so close!
Quizno’s gave my husband a hard time when he went in with his coupon- he asked for jalapenos on the sandwich and the lady started yelling saying that it is free, so he doesn’t get special treatment. He talked to the manager and she did have the sandwich made the way he asked-but as he was walking out, he noticed that they have FREE jalapenos at the condiment station! Talk about bad attitudes at Quiznos!
I have to say, at my Quiznos (Canyon Country, CA) they were very nice about taking the coupon. I think if store owners were smart about it, they would be. I went in and ordered a sub for me (coupon) and a sub for my husband (no coupon). Their great attitude made me want to go back there. I wish more Franchise owners would have realized that.
My husband had no problem using this coupon. They didn’t even check his ID. I have always liked Quiznos, and am disappointed to hear of other people’s problems, even though we had none. Thanks for posting the deal Mercedes!
I used my Quizno’s coupon with no problem. They did check my I.D. It was the first time I had been there and it was pretty good. I would eat there again but only if I was in the area.
