Update:  I have labeled the deals as beep or no beep if the coupon beeps due to value of item. If value of item is below value of coupon, coupon will beep.  When that happens it depends on your cashier ifs/he will adjust value of coupon down.

Hello,

For items less than a dollar, if I use the $1 coupon, the register beeps and they tell me that I cannot use the coupon since it is for a dollar and the item is lesser than that. How do you purchase these items?

Thanks,
Sheryl

Hi Sheryl,

Sometimes I have the same problem and most of it comes from untrained cashiers who do not know how to adjust a coupon down. I will label the deals I know for a fact that the coupon will beep or not.

We can always count on you for great posts like this. Thanks so much! A

lso – I emailed Target for a copy of their coupon policy. Once I even had to show it to a manager who wouldn’t take my $1 coupon for a $.99 item. That day she learned that even her own store policy was to adjust a coupon amount down to match the price of the item.

Is the coupon for the bottles the coupon that states Gerber Feeding accessory??

Reply

5 Mercedes August 24, 2009 at 8:09 AM

Yep Sonya, that’s right! the other is for clothing and a bottle is for feeding a baby.

On the coupons it says “Limit one offer per transaction” – can you actually get multiple free after coupon items, or is it one item/one transaction? Also, I have read you can stack these with manufacturer coupons, how does that work with the “one coupon” rule?
Sorry, I am new to this coupon thing.

Hi Curious!

It is Target’s coupon policy to allow one target coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. You can stack because one is a store coupon and the other one is a manufacturer coupon. In my own experience I have never had a problem using more than one like target coupon per order. However, this will depend on your cashier. But you can always split your order and do back to back transactions.

I actually came close to calling customer service the other day because they didn’t want to accept the $1.00 General Mills TARGET coupon for one of those $1.00 cups of Honeynut Cheerios.
The cashier and manager were trying to argue that there was a picture of a box on the coupon so cups didn’t count. I explained there was nothing in the description to say “boxes only.” They gave in and said with some flair that they would “talk to corporate about making this more specific.” (like that was going to happen).
I mean, if use that logic, you wouldn’t be able to buy anything but Cheerios because of the picture of the box. Sheesh. I normally don’t have problems with this store…and if I do, it’s always on a Saturday.

WOW! thanks so much for posting the beep/no beep! I’m always weary of using coupons at Target, but now I can better prepare! THANKS!

Thanks for the great post! I am curious about your no beeps though because these coupons all beeped at myt Target this morning. I wonder if stores have control over settings on the registers because 85% of my coupons beep even when there is no overage and it’s matched with the correct item. I wonder if my store is trying to crack down on coupon fraud. If they are, it’s not working very well, because the cashiers hate all the beeps and just push everything through anyways (since everything beeps, they’ve learned to just ignore it)

Thanks so much! We picked up a bunch of free bottles and free soap this morning and the coupons didn’t beep which makes life so much easier! This was wonderful!!!

Oh I almost forgot!

When I was target this morning I was standing in line at the register right next to the one spot and of the little red end thing it says we accept manufactures coupons to help you save more and then under that a little smaller it says “we will gladly take one manf. coupon and one target coupon per item” So next time they tell you they don’t you should make them read their own sign :-)

I went to target today with your list and my stack of coupons and i got a bunch of things free. I had trouble with a few coupons/deals though. they wouldn’t take the skittle coupons for the .52 cent packs. (that was a bumber for the kids)i was using that for leverage while I shopped. And the baby bottles didn’t work either. I asked if I could take those things to the service desk to get it squared away and he said that if they wouldn’t work at all here(at the register) then they won’t take them there(at the service desk. Frustrating but still got a lot of great deals. thanks CSWM

I just wanted to remind everyone the prices very by store. I know at my store the tuna is 1.9x and the A1 sauce is 2.09! So just want to remind everyone of that!

I can’t find the 50 cents off tuna Target coupon…is it expired now? All I see is the $1 off 3 pouches on the generator. Am I missing it?

I just got back from Target and I had printed off 5 coupons for the soap and 5 for the bottles. I had 5 different transactions planned out (because I read that it is one coupon per item per transaction) and on the 3rd transaction she said she can not take my coupons because they all had the same number printed at the bottom. I said because they don’t have different numbers you won’t take my coupons and she said no. Did anyone else have this problem? If so, what did you do?

25 Amanda August 25, 2009 at 9:17 PM

great post, but I got so frustrated today at Target that I emptied my bag out on the counter, grabbed my coupons and LEFT! Every coupon beeped that was target! The cashier insisted she couldn’t take the coupon for the travel size items or the cheerios. And they didn’t consider a bottle a “feeding accessory.” I was like really? I feed my baby with a bottle!! Grrr…

I am not sure I will ever go back to Target. They were just so ugly and uncooperative. I much prefer Bi-Lo and Publix when it comes to couponning. But I gave it a shot!

I tried the Gerber bottle deal, but it beeped and the cashier told me that the register wasn’t accepting the coupon. Do you have any idea why it would do that? I wondered if the cashier had to push some button before scanning the coupon… With so many success stories, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong….

I went to Target this afternoon and got the Johnson’s Buddies soaps, Artisian Bread & Cottonelle with out beeps. But, when the cashier scanned the coupons for the Gerber baby bottles the coupon beeped. He pushed them through but, this coupon beeped for me too. Thanks for the wonderful coupon match-ups Mercedes!

Thank you so much for including the “beep” info. I had all but given up at Target because of a couple embarrassing and frustrating experiences with coupons. I went right for the items with no beeps and got two free bottles, soap, and Skittles with no problems. Keep up the great work!

While I appreciate you compiling the lists, my Target wouldn’t take those Gerber coupons for the bottles. I was really bummed too because I figured if it didn’t beep for you then it wouldn’t beep for me. Two cashiers said the item had to be over $1 for the coupon to work. And they made it seem like they would be doing something totally wrong to adjust it manually. Trying to tell a cashier about their own store policy is totally more headache than it’s worth in my opinion, plus it’s never worked for me. I just wish I could bask in all of the Target freebies you post, but I’m just hesitant to keep trying.

I tried for the gerber bottles today also and it beeped and the girl wouldn’t take them because they weren’t an “accessory”. I expalined to her they are used for feeding and she said if it wasn’t like the picture (the silverware) she wouldn’t take it. I told her I wasn’t going to get the bottles. How frustrating! That was my first experience with printed target coupons and it wasn’t a good one.
