I went to CVS tonight to purchase the Sharpies and it beeped when they scanned my coupon. They said I couldn't use it because the Sharpies were $0.99 and the coupon was for $1.00. I asked the clerk if he could just adjust the coupon to $0.99 but he wouldn't do it. Is this a normal practice at CVS?

Hi modern Day Mom,

I think I would go with what the rep from Cookie Mag said. I think like Lea Ann explain there's a lot of disconnect between brand and marketing teams. Since the coupon is no longer available anyways is a bit of a moot point.

Mercedes,

Now I'm confused! Cookie says the Bagel Bite coupon is not valid and claims they've confirmed this information with the manufacturer; however, I received the following email from Heinz Consumer Affairs @ 10:41am this morning regarding the Bagel Bite coupon:

August 11, 2009

Dear Laura,

Thank you for your recent email asking about the Bagel Bites coupon offer you saw online. It is a valid coupon.

Coupons for our products are made available to consumers in several ways. They may be offered on the package or label. Occasionally, retail stores offer specials and coupons on our products. Additionally, throughout the year, we offer coupons for our products in magazines, newspaper inserts, or direct mailings to households across the country. We encourage you to watch for these special offers.

We hope our products will remain favorites in your household. As a way of thanking you for your continued patronage, we are sending coupons to you through the regular postal mail. These should arrive within the next 2 weeks. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 1-800-255-5750 - our regular offices hours are 8:30 am until 6:00 pm (Eastern time), Monday through Friday.

PS - For more than a century, American families have been creating memories while enjoying Heinz® Ketchup. We invite you to share your memorable family experiences with us by entering the Heinz Wholesome Memories Contest. Simply submit a photo and brief story describing how Heinz Ketchup has inspired a memorable moment with your family. For each memory we receive, Heinz® Ketchup will make a donation to the National Gardening Association to help families across the country cultivate new memories through gardening. Our goal is to collect 57,000 memories. Please visit our website for details at www.HeinzKetchup.com.

The consumer rep could be mistaken; however, given the nature of the incidence, I'm more apt to believe the rep instead of Cookie!

Hi kim,

Yes, you should not use the Bagel Bites coupon as the store may not get reimbursed.

Woohoo! Now I can buy Sharpies! :) Glad to see that Cookie took a positive reaction to the issue. Thank you for your thoughtful, responsible, and positive posts. I've read many other blogs whose owners and readers took offense to the suggestion that some of those coupons were potentially invalid. It was disheartening, but hopefully an eye-opener to those readers who assumed that the coupons were valid simply because a well-known source posted them. Always better to do your own research!
