Target’s Coupon Policy: Now Online

by Mercedes on September 11, 2009

targetlogoI have really great news to share with you:  Target’s coupon policy is now available on their website.  Up until this point for you to have access to this coupon policy you needed to email Target and get it emailed to you by a member of their customer service.  Not anymore, now you can access a copy of their official coupon policy right on their website.  Print it and bring it with you every time you shop.

This is what their official coupon policy states:

Target Stores Coupon Policy

Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores.

• Target accepts one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item (unless prohibited)
• Super Target coupons can be used in any Target store if the store carries the item
• We gladly accept valid internet coupons

Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target.

When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:

• We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued coupons and manufacturer-issued.
• We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
• Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
• We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.
• We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
• All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.

Hopefully bringing this coupon policy with you will help those of you who have had coupon problems at Target.

Thanks Krazy Coupon Lady!

Also make note that some Target stores will only allow you to use 5 target coupons in one transaction. I have been told that it is up to the store manager’s policy. (two different stores) EVEN IF the coupons are for different things in the store. :(

Is there an official rule or policy for using multiples of the same Target Web coupon in one transaction?

Thank you for posting this. I stop shopping at Target for this reason my Target stores will not accept any printed coupons from the internet

I hope this means Target corporate has been training their stores. There seems to be a huge disconnect between corporate policy and what goes down in the stores. If you experience problems call their corporate guest relations office (800) 440-0680.

Does that mean Target takes expired coupons? I didn’t see anything mentioned about it in the article.

I was at Target today and tried to use seven glade candle coupons and the manager told me that they will only let you do five of the same manufacturer coupons a day. Can they do that if it is not a target web coupon.

Tara,

I think if in doubt most cashiers will go with what the coupon says which is one per transaction. That would be the “official rule” but it will be up to the cashier to let you use more than target coupon per transaction.

Alan,

You are so right and in general I find there is poor coupon policy awareness among cashiers and poor understanding of how coupons in general work.

BB,

I think taking expired coupons is not the norm and the safest assumption is that Target won’t take them.

Tammy,

Unfortunately it seems the general consensus that it is up to store’s management to limit how many coupons you can use per trip.

Ran into problem last week. Wanted to use a Target buy one get one free and a manufacturer BIGI free, thus resulting in both items free. No way would the cashier let both coupons be used.

Does any one know if I can use a Target coupon Buy 4 Dow products, get a $5 Gift Card, Plus 2 Target Coupons $1.50/2, for the same 4 items? Does this count as 2 Target coupons on the same item?

Mercedes,

I gave a friend of mine the Hasbro coupons to take to Walmart for me to buy the cheap games. First, the cashier wouldn’t let her use the Scrabble and Pictureka coupons for the card games – said they had to be used on the full size games. When my friend pressed the point another cashier (possibly a supervisor) was called over and said that the coupons couldn’t be used at all as they were “reproduced” and Walmart wouldn’t be reimbursed for them. Did anyone else have trouble at Walmart? I’m heading out to Target today to try them there. I was really hoping to find someone to do some of my coupon shopping for me since I work a lot of hours, but this was not a good first experience. Thanks!
