I agree that it’s way to easy going overboard shopping for your little girl. I know I could easily blow our entire budget on our 5-week-old. So, I made a rule early in the pregnancy not to buy a stitch of clothing or toys. I know the second I do, there will be no end.

Yay! footies for 12 month and up are so hard to find and I just got 5 for less than $25! So cute! Thanks!

To not go overboard when shopping for my daughter? I shop used stores. Tons of very cute clothes for pennies compared to shopping even the clearance racks at the stores. And better yet, when she wears the knees out of a pair of pants I’m not looking at it and going “man those were 15.00″!

When she was younger (she’s 3 now) I actually found some very very cute outfits at Babies R Us and just bought four of them (since they were 10.00 for the entire outfit) and she just basically wore those outfits (I made sure all the pants and shirts and dresses were interchangeable so that I got LOTS of different very cute outfits out of the same four sets of clothing). It worked great.

One thing I’d like to suggest to parents is the Sears Kidvantage program, especially for socks. The kids wear out the product you can go in and get new ones for free (outgrowing the clothing doesn’t count). Simple as that. My sister-in-law just clued me into this program and how it actually works (I’ve been a member for a while but I must admit I didn’t know exactly what it was). Being the mom of three young boys, she’s loving the free socks when her kids wear holes in them (and the jeans). Just thought I’d pass that along to other parents out there.

I have three girls (7, almost 6, and 4). Thanks to my mother and aunt, I get to control my spending…because THEY do it all. However, they hit all the “extra % off” sales at the very end of the season. Sure, stuff may be picked over by then, but they get sweet outfits from Gymboree and often for less than the original price of one piece. And next year it’s “so last season” but SO WHAT! by the time my 4 y/o gets into it, it is still in excellent condition and Gymbo has usually already recycled the line again by then, too! :) We do the same for play clothes at the end of the season at WalMart and Target. I happened upon some little denim skirts marked down to $1 at WalMart a few months ago. I guess they found them in the stock room or something. They were 4T, just what we needed for our 4 y/o this summer! I snapped up all five of them.

It’s rough being a mom of two little girls. So much cute stuff, so little time. The cutest is when the little one fits in the hand me downs of the older one or of her older cousin. It reminds me of when the bigger ones were small.
