CVS Shopping Trip: Got Paid to Shop $1.94

I finally had a chance to do a little shopping this week and decided to venture to both Rite Aid and CVS.  At Rite Aid I struck out on the Johnson & johnson Baby products. The store was all out of them.  I was able to get a raincheck for them so hopefully I will be able to take advantage of this deal later.  I did get the boxes of Kleenex facial tissues for 24 cents each after sale and $0.75/1 coupons available to print at the beginning of the month.

Some of you know that I have just recently started shopping at Rite Aid, so how do rainchecks work there?  The cashier wrote my raincheck for 8 bottles.  Will I be able to redeem them all at once or one at a time.  I have the coupons to get them FREE too.  Any help from my readers who are expert Rite Aid Shoppers is welcomed.

At CVS, I did much better.  My local store “turns on” Sunday sales on Saturday so I was able to do the Kashi and Crest Deals today without having to wait until tomorrow.  If you are unsure if your store turns the next week’s sales on Saturday, just ask your cashier.  I love stores that do that because I can shop once and double dip two weeks of sales.

This is what I did at CVS:

Two Kashi TLC Bars 2/$5
One Colgate Total tothpaste $2.77
One Crest toothpaste $3.29
Two Nature Name bottles of Vitamin C on sale buy one get one free 2/$12.29
Used the following coupons:
One $1/1 Colgate coupon
Two $2/1 Kashi coupons
Two $5/1 Nature Made Vitamins coupons (available a while back)
One $3/1 Nature Made CVS coupon that printed at the scanner
Paid $6.35 out of pocket and got back $8.29 in extra care bucks

Nothing like getting paid to shop!  This sort of makes up for my local Target not having the $5 Gift Card deal on frozen Food.  Well, not really.  I would have loved to stock up on frozen veggies.

How did you do this week?

RE: Rite Aid. At the store by my house, when I’ve used the rainchecks I usually have the quantity and they take the raincheck. One thing I’ve learned to do is ask whomever is writing the raincheck to be sure and write on it if there are UP rewards with that sale item so the cashier later knows to take off that dollar amount for the UP reward. I just used one this week and she just subtracted the $2 UP that I would have gotten as a coupon. Rite Aid has always been very easy to deal with when it comes to coupons, rain checks, rebates and their own Rite Aid coupons. Like any other store- the experience can vary depending on how well the cashier likes couponers!

      Kristie,
My raincheck says $2.99 less $2 +Up reward. quantity 8. Does that mean that when I got to buy it they will deduct $2 from each one?
      hoping that is the case!

      • Kristie says:

Yes, they should deduct for each one. Good luck! Hope you have as good luck as many of us have at Rite Aid. The store by me always runs out of stock, or has little stock. Last weekend I went Sunday morning which I rarely do, but they didn’t even have the sale signs up yet and I wanted a glucosamine deal they had where you got 2 bottles for free, and they only had 2 bottles in stock. I spent too much time wandering around and comparing with the ad to make sure I was getting the right product. I was told the sale signs aren’t up until about 1:00 at the store by me. My daughter works for Rite Aid as an asst manager, and in the stores defense, she says they get little stock due to the fact they have no storage space and are dependent on the trucks coming frequently for stock. She says most Sunday mornings one couponer can wipe out the entire stock of a sale item and then it takes 2-3 days to get another shipment.

I went to Target for the clearance jeans at $4.98, and got 2 pairs for free!!

    • Mercedes says:

      That’s awesome Sarah!

    • Allison says:

I did the same thing!!! I have to say it was so exciting to get 2 $20.00 pair of jeans marked down to $4.98 for FREE!!!! I did notice that the in-store coupons are now pricing it down, the coupon automatically went down to 4.98 instead of 5.00 when he scanned it, which is fine by me. In the past the Target coupon would allow overage.

I went to Target also but I didn’t get the $4.98 jeans because my store only had jeggings or the super low-rise jeans at that price. I spurged and spent $1.24 (after the $5 coupon) and got some mid-rise skinny jeans. Got 2-$10 gift cards for 2-$4 prescriptions for the cats, got a $5 gift card for buying 10 Sobes. Don’t remember what else I got because my husband saw a flat-screen tv marked down (floor model), got 20% more off because it was missing the remote, used the 3 gift cards and my 5% off Rx day card AND took another 5% off by using my Target check card and ended up payiing $408 for what was an $850 TV. Remind me to leave him home next time (even though it IS a good deal)!

  4. Hilda says:

Oops, that should be splurged….oh yeah, after we got the tv, we went to Chipolte and used our BOGO burrito coupon. Stopped at Shaw’s on the way home for free Kleenex and a few other things. Tonight, popped in at Rite Aid for 2 packages of Double Stuff Oreos (they didn’t have the Spring ones), paid $2 and got $3 in Rite Rewards back. Might still make it to Hannaford tonight too….have a $5 off $50 coupon that I hate to have expire!

    Mercedes,
I just discovered this week that you CAN use your raincheck until you get your 8 bottles. Just ask for it back. They don’t need it. They used to take it from me, but this week they started crossing out the number and deducting the ones I got (three different stores did this). So, you don’t have to find 8 in one store. This was an awesome revelation for me! I wish I had known this earlier. I could have gotten more Dove deoderants!! (Why do I always get a red squiggle under deoderant?). Also, they will deduct the UPs and only charge you the .99. :) Have fun. You are going to absolutely LOVE Rite Aid shopping. Just be prepared for lots of rainchecks. They don’t have very good supply.

I had an issue with this back when they first started doing the +UP rewards so I wrote an email to corporate and they said the stores are supposed to write the final price after the +UP rewards on the raincheck because they can’t manually print the +UP rewards like CVS can with the ECB’s. Of course if you wanted to pay the full price because of wanting to use a $4/$20 coupon this hurts that. I love Rite Aid too. While I’m at it I will tell of my Rite Aid experience this past week. I stopped in to take advantage of the Johnson’s baby deal and a couple others. When I was checking out somehow in the middle of scanning my coupons the register cashed out. The receipt printed but I wasn’t done giving coupons. The clerk called the manager and after several minutes she said to void it and re-ring it. The manager then gave me the original receipt with all the +UP rewards ($19) and the new receipt with the same amount. Also, ringing it up twice gave me the $20 +UP for spending $100 during Feb. I told the manager she didn’t have to do that but she said I was always a great customer there and she appreciated my patience. I LOVE RITE AID!!
