6 Hrs in the ER and 12 Stitches Later this is What We Have to Show

20120223-174930.jpgWell, here is my middle son (4yrs old) not looking exactly thrilled about his hand.  I guess getting 12 stitches is not something to boast about for someone his age.  Long story short, I was called to the ER after my son cut his finger in an accident at his preschool.  Twelve stitches is what he needed to get everything back to the way it was.  And of course the visit to the ER could not be avoided.  Thank goodness for insurance even though we do have one with a big deductible, so we will be paying for a lot of this ourselves, sigh…

Gosh, I pray this is as eventful as it gets for us and our three kids and visits to the ER. We shall be so lucky!

OK, I am off to catch up and see what I have missed and can still share with you :-)

  8. Sadie says:

My little guy had stitches in his face twice in less than a year- once for jumping over a heavy oak dining chair and hitting his face between his eyebrow and bridge of his nose on the square corner then for falling off the chair in art class and splitting his lip open on the table. Heads are horrible! They bleed like crazy and the kid’s face has to be covered up so they can’t see what’s going on around them, SCARY. Feel better little guy!

    • Mercedes says:

OMGosh your son! Boys will be boys though, that is true. I don’t even want to think about a head injury. I had one myself at the age of 6, lost consciousness and all, yikes!

  13. lorena says:

Poor little guy. I will keep him in my prayers. My son broke his clavicle twice when he was in school and it just breaks your heart to see them in pain. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

  14. Lisa Plate says:

The daycare is responsible for the ER bill!!!! Make sure they know that & an accident report is on file. It happened on their property, on their watch. Follow up with them & make sure they pay up. Not you!

  15. Lisa Cox says:

Poor baby. Best wishes to him and to you and your family.

  16. Ekatia says:

Have you filed an incident report? If you did then insurents will pay!

    • Mercedes says:

An incident report with our insurance or the daycare?

      Mercedes

      • Barbara A says:

He is adorable. Your daycare should have insurance that will cover it. Many, many years ago I remember someone got injured at the dance school my daughter went to, well I know that the owner was very upset that his insurance didn’t outright take care of all of it. Instead the girl had to first use her insurance and then the dance school would pick up anything that wasn’t covered. That was in NJ though and NJ has very different insurance rules. I’m sure that they will cover at least your out of pocket expense. A daycare couldn’t exist without insurance? The daycare is responsible for everything that happens to your son while he is in their care. Good luck.

      • Denise says:

Mercedes – these ladies are right – since the accident happened in the daycare facility while your child was under their care – the daycares insurance should be responsible for picking up the bill. You need to look into that immediately before any more time lapses. I believe there is a 72 hour window for reporting an accident and getting 100% coverage. Regardless they should be the party paying for this NOT you. Good luck !

  17. Jessika says:

    Poor little guy … :(
Just curious , what on earth was he playing with that did that much damage?

    • Mercedes says:

He was standing behind one of the teacher who was sitting on a chair. Apparently he was holding on to the char and when she leaned back on the chair a part of the chair pinched skin off his finger. A piece of skin and nail came off. I can’t even think of it. I am not good at looking at injuries. But they reattached the piece of finger and nail.

      Mercedes

  18. Lisa says:

Awww, Mercedes, I’m sorry to hear about your little guy! I’m sure that was scary for him, and you, both! Thinking of you from Plymouth, my friend!

  19. Jennifer says:

Aw, I’m sorry! He does look miserable.

  20. Erika says:

Aww, poor little guy! I hope he has a speedy recovery!

  21. Amy says:

Oh no! Poor little man. I pray that his little thumb will heal up quickly and that this unexpected medical expense will not set you back financially.

  22. huayni says:

Get well soon litle one! Praying changes were made at school to avoid this from happening again.

  23. Rob says:

Oh no! Take care of your lil guy ;-)

  24. Betty says:

I will be sending prayers up to God above for your little man. I’ve 5 wonderful kids and our oldest son has had us in the ER more times than I care. They do heal up well and continue on being the boys God intended them to be. I pray he gets well SOON and your nerves aren’t totally shot:)

  25. Mercedes says:

Thank you guys so much for your well wishes and also for the tip on finding out if the preschool will cover the charges. We will be calling this morning to find out about that. We really had not even thought about that at all or that it was possible, But it would be nice because our deductible is fairly huge really. But who’s isn’t really? It’s awful how bad insurance policies are now. Oh well, he is doing well which is all that matters really. I am just thankful it was not a more serious injury.

    Mercedes

  26. Melanie says:

He is SOOO Adorable! I’m sorry to hear he got hurt.

  27. Karen says:

So Sorry to hear about your little guy. You have a good and wonderful attitude. I pray the school does take care some of this for you. I am sure they have insurances for this kind of thing happening.

  28. Melissa says:

My daughter fell at my mother’s house earlier this year and it was up to our insurance company whether to pay the ER bill or make us file a claim under my mother’s homeowners insurance. Thankfully, our insurance just paid it. I’m guessing that when your insurance gets the bill from the ER, you will get a form to fill out asking whether it was an accident and then eventually they will tell you what to do. I don’t know how it works with your deductible though. I would think that the preschool would be liable and have to pay it/ reimburse you. Hope your son feels better soon.

  29. Nancy V. says:

Poor little guy : ( I hope he has a fast recovery! I have a 4 year old son myself and it just hurts to see our babies when they are injured.

  30. amy loo says:

Mercedes I hope yoir little one gets well soon.

  31. Denise says:

My heart goes out to you Mercedes – being in an ER with your child is a gut wretching experience to say the least. I made that same trip last year when my daughter fell off her bed & right into the corner of her table & had a gash by her ear. Keeping your cool on the outside while your freaking out on the inside is NOT easy to do. I hope the healing process is a good one & wish him a speedy recovery. Thanks for all you do for each & everyone of us. You are truly amazing.

  32. Renna Lea says:

He is sooo precious. Get well soon little man.

  33. Hope things work out well and I imagine the daycare should have to pick up the deductible anyway. And yes, all daycares must have insurance, but not sure whose will have to pick it up.

  34. DAY says:

    AWWWW!!!He looks really traumatized!!!
