5 Things I Splurge On

Meredith is asking readers to list five things they splurge on in their Kitchen. These are the tings I spend extra on:

  1. My top indulgence is Chocolate Chai Tea from Wegmans. It costs $26.99 a pound but it’s delicious. I got hooked on this tea when we lived in PA. Now I have to have it mailed in by friends.
  2. Maple Syrup: my husband won’t have anything else but the real thing.
  3. Real Vanilla: nothing but the real stuff will do around here.
  4. Hormone Free milk: It doesn’t have to be organic but it must be hormone free.
  5. Buttermilk: I haven’t been able to convince my husband (the dairy food scientist) that milk with vinegar mixed in is a good substitute for this.

Thanks for participating! The Chai sounds AWESOME!! Sometimes we have to treat ourselves, right? 🙂

Did you know you can make your own buttermilk using the buttermilk you have in your fridge?

Put two tablespoons of buttermilk in a quart jar, then fill up with whole milk, shake, and leave overnight outside of the refrigerator.

In the morning you will have great buttermilk, and you can use two tablespoons of it to make more.

Thanks Mrs H, I will have to tried that because I make pancakes and waffles from scratch using buttermilk. So I always try to have some in the fridge.
