Father’s Day Giveaway: Sportsline DUO Heart Rate Monitor

This gift idea is perfect for the fit dad or the wanna-be-fit dad.  A heart rate monitor is a great tool for all exercisers. It will help you learn how you feel at a given heart rate and you will become a better judge of your exercise tolerance and any limitations. Heart rate monitors are also useful for new exercisers because the device helps them set limits and monitor their progress.
Sportline has a heart rate monitor for all ages and stages of health. The DUO 1060 Speed & Distance Heart Rate Monitor ($119.99) provides a constant tracking of your heart rate, speed, strides, and distance.
Check out the various functions this monitor includes:
Time: time, date, month, day, 12 or 24 hour watch, daily alarm clock, and dual time zones.
Heart Rate: use your finger to touch the watch and test your rate or use the strap that comes in the kit, workout memory, personalized heart rate zone alert, calorie consumption, etc.
Timer: sound alarm, times up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds
Chronograph: lap/split memory recall, up to 100 laps, times up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds
Pedometer: measure strides, time, distance, and speed
Some of the aesthetic features that I liked in this heart rate monitor is that it is sleek and sporty. But most importantly, I liked the  useful features like the timer and the calorie burning counter.
For a more sensible budget you may want to consider the  Qlip Pedometer from Sportline for $35 and The Men’s Health Power Strip at $20. The Qlip has the ability to be clipped on to your clothing or is small enough to fit inside your pocket. It tracks steps, distance, calories and total time in activity. The Power Strip is your in home gym. Attach it to a door, and practice different moves toning different areas of your body. It comes with handles and ankle straps and can travel with you on the road. This could save dad the expensive costs of a gym membership.
Common Sense with Money readers can save 20% off any purchase on Sportline.com with code DADSAVE. Code expires on Father’s Day.

Win it!

My Husband was 29 yo when he was diagnosed with hypertension. Now he is 30years old and is attempting to make a lifestyle change. This would help him get a jump start on his new adventure to health. Cheers.. I am so proud of him.

  • Colleen M

This would be a perfect gift for my husband who needs to fit more “daily exercise” into his busy schedule.

  • Amy Baggett

My husband and I would use it to maintain our health and train for effectively. We live way out in the country. There are no gyms available, but plenty of open, hilly terrain to run. We could use the watch to help us know distances and HR for training and staying fit.

If I were lucky enough to win I would give this to my husband. He has been struggling to loose weight that he has put on due to a back injury, and it would be nice to be able to monitor his activity levels to ensure he is staying within a healthy range and not over working his heart. We just celebrated our 5 year anniversary, and I would like to celebrate 50 more :)

  • Meg

My husband is very fit and tries to use holistic methods to stay in shape. He suffers from acute anxiety, and tries to control stress with yoga and other relaxation methods. I’d give him this heart rate monitor so that he could wear it and keep track of when/if his heart rate started racing too much. Sometimes worrying about having a panic attack is enough to give you one. Also, it would help so much while exercising to ensure that he doesn’t press himself too much!

  • Michele

This would make an awesome gift for a single Dad of twin autistic boys! He is always ‘running’ around trying to keep up with the boys and keep in shape too :) He would love all the features!

I am trying to get in better shape because I am walking for my Aunt Jan who suffers from PKD. Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is one of the most common life-threatening genetic diseases, affecting 600,000 Americans and 12.5 million people worldwide.
In fact, it affects more people than Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, and sickle cell anemia –combined! Still, few people know about it. There is no treatment and no cure… YET.
I am walking to change that and the heart monitor would really help me achive losing weight.
