Not the Blogher Wrap Up I Had in Mind

I am making my way home right now via train. The Acela Express should have me there in a few hours. However, home will not be as I left it. Our male pug Diego passed away a few hours ago from a sudden heart complication. He was only seven years old and was not sick at all. It was just so sudden and I am sad I did not even have a chance to say good bye.

He is survived by Gracie his partner in mischief. I hope she doesn’t get too depressed. If you have pets you know how hard it is to lose a pet.

  16. Robyn says:

So sorry. We had two pug (sisters) and we had to put one down b/c of medical reasons almost 2 years ago. She was only 5 years old and it was a pretty quick decision for us. Her sister didn’t eat for a few days and was bummed for awhile, but she got better. Pugs are such social, need-to-be-close to you dogs that I wondered if it was much harder on our little girl when her sister passed. ?? I’m sure it’s hard for all dogs (and their ‘parents’). Eventually it won’t hurt so much to remember for you, and your other pug.

  17. Lynn says:

My prayers are with you. We love our furry members of our family and I know how hard it is to loose one. I am so sorry.

  18. jen says:

My heart goes out to you, thanking God that your sweet one had such a good momma here in his brief time on this earth. I long for the day when all our (people AND animals) suffering will be over. Maranatha!

  22. Lisa says:

I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s the thing about having four legged family members, they never stay with us for as long as we wish they would but we love them with all of our hearts, which get broken when they go the Rainbow Bridge.

My heart hurts for you, your family and for Gracie.

  27. sally says:

I lost my 14 year old pet cat Colby last year around this time and I miss her like crazy. She too had a heart problem so, I do know how it feels not to have the chance to say goodbye. 30. Bargain babe says:

I am sorry for your loss. My Mom’s golden retriever died when she was vacationing with me and I still feel guilty that she was with me and not Misty. She had a wonderful way of saying goodbye to pets. We would all stand around the grave and take turns saying something nice about the pet. Try it and maybe you will feel better.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our 14-1/2 yr old dog Mandy in June. My husband & I got her as a pup when we had been married for 1 yr. She was almost 4 when our children started arriving, so they had been growing up with her. It was so hard for us that last day at the vet’s office & for several days after. She had been my b-day present and my first “baby.” You & your family are in my prayers.

  46. Gail says:

I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your loved dog. I am a pet lover and lost my dog to an unexplained illness several years and still cry when she crosses my mind. 50. Tosca says:

I’m really sorry for your lost, losing a pet can be one of the hardest things and people don’t always understand how painful it is. The bond that is formed with a pet is very strong and when they pass they leave tiny little holes in our hearts. We know that they go to a better place but it still hurts not having them in our lives anymore. I lost my cat 5 years ago and I still miss her sometimes.

Sending you my prayers and best wishes.

  54. I am so very sorry. We’ve lost (2) dogs (both littermates, both after long and wonderful lives -12 & 14) and it was terribly difficult for all of us. I still miss them and always will; there is no more compassionate, loyal, and joyful friend than a good dog.

Safe travels and I hope BlogHer was fun.

  57. KimH says:

Im so sorry to hear that Diego has moved on to another time & space without you having the opportunity to bid him farewell. I know what it is to miss a beloved animal family member. However, sometimes, usually when you least expect it.. you’ll hear, see or feel a familiar feeling or event and you’ll swear your Diego has come to visit from the Other Side.. Know that he can and will.. When we pass, we dont cease to exist.. we merely change form, seeing as how we are bodies of energy. Science has proved that created energy never ceases to exist.. it merely changes forms.. And you will see your beloved Diego again someday.. in your dreams perhaps and on the Other Side!
    Much love & many blessings,
    Kim

  58. ICS says:

I’m so sorry Mercedes. A couple of weeks ago we euthanized our 6 year old Pug. He suffered from PDE a type of Encephalitis unique to pugs, for which there is no cure. The toughest thing was deciding when to make the final call to put him down as he slowly deteriorated. It’s funny as a man I always liked big dogs but little Henry taught me a lot. He was so full of life & character in such a small body. He was best buddies with Max our big dog (a Belgian Malinois). For us the best thing to do was to adopt another dog for ourselves & Max which we just did. Snoopy the Beagle will never replace or be a substitute for Henry, but he is a rescue that needs our love as well.

  67. Sarah Elyce says:

I was so sad to read this. I read your blog everyday, compulsively checking it multiple times a day, and just got home from a double shift and saw this. I am incredibly sorry for your loss. I can barely bear to even contemplate losing my sweet little Delilah so I can’t begin to imagine how it must feel when it actually happens. I suppose, as dog owners, we just have to be so thankful for our pets being in our lives and remember all the laughs and good times we have had because of our doggies and how happy our dogs must have been to have caring owners.

  68. samantha says:

I am so sorry for your loss.

  78. andrea says:

I’m so sorry to hear that. We just lost our long-haired black cat—she would have been two years old this month. Like your dog, she wasn’t even sick. Vet said it was probably a heart issue she was born with.

  79. Sue says:

So sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a pet is not easy – they are one of family.

  80. Emily says:

I’m so so sorry. Having a pet go when they’re old is bad enough but if it’s unexpected… I hope Gracie will be okay. When our doxie lost his best friend he took it hard and didn’t eat well for a whole month. I’m sure she will be grieving too for a while.

  81. Sue Lieberg says:

I am so sorry to hear that, I have 2 cavaliers that are my babies and I cant imagine the
    grief of losing a pet.

  82. kimberly says:

I am so sorry. I know how utterly awful that feels.

  83. Betsy says:

So sorry for your loss. How hard it must be not being able to be there. I have a fridge magnet that says ” Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole”. I believe this to be soo true. I love my chihuahuas and have not had a loss, but I know it will be hard when the times comes.

  84. Anabel says:

I’ll keep your family in our prayers.

  85. Xochilt says:

I am so sorry to hear that. I too am a dog owner and know how awful that feels. My heart goes out to you.

  86. JERRI says:

I am so sorry, I know how you feel, my prayers are with you and the family

  87. elizabeth says:

So very very sorry to read about your loss. It’s even harder for you without the closure of saying goodbye. Diego was fortunate to go quickly, though, and for that I am sure you are grateful.

Mourn as you must and then, when you are ready, look for a dog to rescue. There are so many out there that would benefit from your loving home. If pugs are your thing, look into your region’s pug rescue.
    Right now, just mourn.

  88. AngelaRS says:
