A huge thank you to Hooked on Bargains and TotallyTarget for compiling these lists!

My Target doesn’t give overages anymore. The last couple times I’ve shopped there any manufactures coupons that exceeded the price of the item where automatically reduced to the price of that item. I do always buy enough items to cover any overages that I got, unless I’m doing something wrong?

  • Kathy

This has been my experience also. I think Target has updated their registers to prevent overage now. Though I’ll admit a little extra is nice, I have no issue w/ this. However, in their attempt to prevent overage some cpns are adjusting down erroneously, which I do mind! I think this only happens when it’s $ off more than 1 and the price of 1 is less than cpn, and a glitch in the system only looks at the price of one!

    • Stephanie Downing

This happened to me today on a couple of deals that would have been really good! I didn’t want more than I was spending… but I did want the amount I was spending and they wouldn’t give it to me!

I am not finding the Target coupon for the Wonka bars. What zip are you using?

  • Tricia

With the $3/3 Band-Aids coupon, I used it on 2 boxes of Dora band-aids and one 10ct box of Hello Kitty band-aids from the trial section, making them 37c for all 3.. [I did it this way since I was only able to print 2 of the Target coupons.] $1.69 per Dora Band-Aid box times 2 = $3.38 plus 99c for Hello Kitty Band-Aids equals $4.37 minus $3/3 = $1.37 minus 2 50c store coupons = 37c).
You could also do it with a small bottle of Purell [my store had these with the hand soap, while all the other brands of the same size bottle were in the trial section?] which were roughly $1.39, making it 77c for 2 boxes of Dora Band-Aids and a bottle of Purell.

  • Stephanie Downing

I have a question about the Post-it coupon. I have used a few already, but I just printed a few more and noticed that it says the “value of notes product must be at least $2.” So I’m guessing you are not supposed to use this on the $1 package? I am already guilty of doing this… I did not notice it before. Any thoughts on this?

    • Maridale

The original one (that I saved to my computer like I do all pdf q’s :-) did not have that disclaimer on it about the 2.00 min.

      • Stephanie Downing

Oh, interesting… they must have changed it! At least the ones I used the first time were probably ok then!

  • Tracey

The Campbell’s Select Harvest regular cans are also on price break for $1.50 so you can get these for free also.

I am having trouble getting Target to accept my coupons for trial sizes. Is there a particular store I must go to to get this deal?

    • Nancy V.

I’ve experienced the same thing & despite the fact that the coupon says “ANY SIZE or PRODUCT,” they just won’t make it happen for me!
Today, they refused 2 Free Frito Lay coupons up to $3.99 that I had received directly from Frito Lay Customer service for an issue I had with their product. Their response was that the register gave them a weird prompt that they had never seen before that stated the customer needed to contact the company issuing the coupon! I explained to the cashier & manager that they are legitimate as they were directly from the company & have halograms on them, but the manager said that there was no way she could override it to make it go through : (

      • Stephanie Downing

I had the same thing happen with some coupons I got from Quaker Oats!

        • Nancy V.

Stephanie, did you eventually get to redeeming them elsewhere or did you contact Quaker?

          • Stephanie Downing

I have only tried Target. I figure I’ll try Wal-Mart and/or our IGA here in town… if they don’t work, I’ll e-mail Quaker. It’s kind of frustrating because you know Target would have received $8 from Quaker, and I was spending over $8, so they should have accepted them! I did e-mail Target so I’ll be interested to see what they officially say….

  • Kathy

Nancy, Did you try to “stack” these w/ the Target web cpns for $1 off Frito Lay? If so, their registers seem to be programmed to prevent overage now, so that may be why it wouldn’t go. However, they still should have adjusted it down. Issues like these need to be called into their corporate office, they can help you do this right from cust serv desk. It isn’t just about the money on that purchase, as we know.
Marnie Ann, I buy few trial sizes, and am probably not in your area, but I’ve heard some stores are “more friendly” about this than others. It is not against their policy, except they are to adjust it down if the cpn is for more than the price. Sometimes, their attempt to prevent “overage” seems to be creating an issue w/ cpns recently.

    • Nancy V.

No stacking, just 2 manuf coupons for $3.99 off any Lay’s Product & the bags I got had Lay’s written with big letters on it and were for $3.99. It wasn’t a “wrong item” prompt–the manager came over & told me she had never seen a prompt like that before where customer had to contact coupon issuing company! My only guess is that maybe that particular type of coupon (not the one I was issued by Lay’s) has somehow become one that is counterfited b/c of its’ high value—I don’t know : ( I’m going to try to use them at my local grocery store & I’m still going to contact Lay’s with the redeeming issue I had!

  • Lynn

The Post It Coupons state that the “value of notes product must be at least $2″, so you wouldn’t be able to use them on sticky notes priced at a $1.

  • Shayla

Thank you for putting this all in one place. Soooo helpful!

  • Kathy

Nancy and Stephanie, VERY frustrating for you! I’ll be interested to see if other stores have a “problem” w/ them, AND Target’s reply to the issue. They clearly gain customers when you come in to redeem these cpns and normally purchase other things (in addition to reimbursement). However, they lose much when they make you feel “dishonest”, and you can’t get the item!

    • Nancy V.

I did try our local grocery store yesterday (HEB Grocery) and they were really polite but stated that they do not take ANY free item manuf coupons and it has been like that for quite some time. The only free item coupons they take are their store brands (any they do a lot of promos & really push their products!).
      I tried Walgreen’s tonight & had NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!! : ) Yipeee!!!!
I had never heard of this happening to anyone until it happened to me!

  • Jennifer

I went to my target tonight to try to find the Purina One Smart Blend (6 oz. Trial Size), $1 and I couldnt find them anywhere in the Pet section. I even asked an associate and they looked at me like I was nuts for trying to find a trial size of Dog food. Has anyone else been able to buy these and if so, where are they located in the store? I would really like to buy these as I do fostering for the local dachshund rescue and these are perfect to go with the fosters to their new home. Especially since this is the type of food I feed them anyway.
Can anyone help me figure out where in the store they are?

  • Kathy

Nancy, glad you FINALLY got your free snacks, after all your hassle!

Jennifer, I am in OH, but have found locally some stores carry them and some don’t. They were only on an endcap near the pet food in the ones that had them. I got them for the local animal shelter.
