Target’s Coupon Policy: Now Online

targetlogoI have really great news to share with you:  Target’s coupon policy is now available on their website.  Up until this point for you to have access to this coupon policy you needed to email Target and get it emailed to you by a member of their customer service.  Not anymore, now you can access a copy of their official coupon policy right on their website.  Print it and bring it with you every time you shop.

This is what their official coupon policy states:

Target Stores Coupon Policy

Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores.

• Target accepts one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item (unless prohibited)
• Super Target coupons can be used in any Target store if the store carries the item
• We gladly accept valid internet coupons

Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target.

When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:

• We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued coupons and manufacturer-issued.
• We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
• Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
• We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.
• We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
• All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.

Hopefully bringing this coupon policy with you will help those of you who have had coupon problems at Target.

Thanks Krazy Coupon Lady!

Also make note that some Target stores will only allow you to use 5 target coupons in one transaction. I have been told that it is up to the store manager’s policy. (two different stores) EVEN IF the coupons are for different things in the store. :(

Is there an official rule or policy for using multiples of the same Target Web coupon in one transaction?

    • http://www.commonsensewithmoney.com Mercedes

      Tara,

I think if in doubt most cashiers will go with what the coupon says which is one per transaction. That would be the “official rule” but it will be up to the cashier to let you use more than target coupon per transaction.

Thank you for posting this. I stop shopping at Target for this reason my Target stores will not accept any printed coupons from the internet

I hope this means Target corporate has been training their stores. There seems to be a huge disconnect between corporate policy and what goes down in the stores. If you experience problems call their corporate guest relations office (800) 440-0680.

      Alan,

You are so right and in general I find there is poor coupon policy awareness among cashiers and poor understanding of how coupons in general work.

        Mercedes,

I gave a friend of mine the Hasbro coupons to take to Walmart for me to buy the cheap games. First, the cashier wouldn’t let her use the Scrabble and Pictureka coupons for the card games – said they had to be used on the full size games. When my friend pressed the point another cashier (possibly a supervisor) was called over and said that the coupons couldn’t be used at all as they were “reproduced” and Walmart wouldn’t be reimbursed for them. Did anyone else have trouble at Walmart? I’m heading out to Target today to try them there. I was really hoping to find someone to do some of my coupon shopping for me since I work a lot of hours, but this was not a good first experience. Thanks!

Does that mean Target takes expired coupons? I didn’t see anything mentioned about it in the article.

    • http://www.commonsensewithmoney.com Mercedes

      BB,

I think taking expired coupons is not the norm and the safest assumption is that Target won’t take them.

  • Tammy

I was at Target today and tried to use seven glade candle coupons and the manager told me that they will only let you do five of the same manufacturer coupons a day. Can they do that if it is not a target web coupon.

    • http://www.commonsensewithmoney.com Mercedes

      Tammy,

Unfortunately it seems the general consensus that it is up to store’s management to limit how many coupons you can use per trip.

Ran into problem last week. Wanted to use a Target buy one get one free and a manufacturer BIGI free, thus resulting in both items free. No way would the cashier let both coupons be used.

I’m having a bit of trouble understanding this part, ” • Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.”

When my daughter was still a baby, I was very dedicated to couponing, and I used to get those checks in the mail from the enfamil sent to my home and to my mother’s home and to my brother’s home and to my grandmother’s home. They were all made out to me and were in fact considered currency as clearly stated on the check, not a coupon. I also had coupons that were included in all the mailers with the checks, if the check was for 11.00 I would get the formula that was 13.00, if the check was for 5.00 I tried once to get the cans that were 4.99 and they would not allow me to as they said, even though it wasnt even a coupon, they still considered it one, if it was over the value, I couldnt get it, I had to get something that was over 5.00. I also had a similar experience in a food source a few weeks ago, the juice was 2/1.99 and I had a coupon for 2.00 off 2. they wouldnt take it because it wasnt over 2.00. Maybe Im just not being assertive enough.

I had the same problem today with target. I tried to buy the tide single load detergent for 97 cents and had a $1.00 coupon and was told I could not use the coupon. I have been buying them there.

      • Yvonne

I had the same problem today. I decided to only buy 2 of the Tide singles ($1.07ea) and 2 of the Cascade 3ct action pacs ($1.27 ea) as a trial run. The cashierfirst told me I couldn’t use the Tide coupon because it was for bottles only. I pointed out that it was for ANY Tide detergent. She begrudgingly scanned it. Then she said I cannot use the Cascade because I was buying the trial size (she also said the same of the Tide). Again I pointed out that it was for ANY Cascade item & that it would state “excludes trial size” if that were the case. She wasn’t happy about putting them through. She also said that’s not the norm to use coupons on trial size and that she could get in trouble for letting the transaction through. So, is this Target’s policy or something that she was stating on her own??

I don’t know if it’s just me or if everyone else experiencing problems
with your site. It appears as though some of the text on your posts are running off the
screen. Can somebody else please comment and let me know
if this is happening to them too? This could be a problem with my
browser because I’ve had this happen previously.
