Walgreens Coupon Policy or Lack Thereof

With so many great deals going on at Walgreens over the last few weeks, it’s bound to happen that some of you will face road blocks. One of these roadblocks you often share with me in the comments section is being denied the use of a manufacturer coupon with a Walgreens coupons. Often times, some of you ask me if there’s a Walgreens Coupon Policy.

Unfortunately Walgreens does not have a public or official coupon policy to share with their customers. At best we have a Walgreens Coupon FAQ document shared by Walgreens Customer Service. But you have to email Customer Service and get them to email this to you for your records. Other deal bloggers and myself are hoping that Walgreens will decide to share this document with its own customers. What’s the secrecy I ask? After all, having a public document like this will only improve customer service. Having informed consumers will also improve their own operations as time wasted at the register arguing will be minimized.

Thanks to reader Sarah for sharing the email she received from Walgreens Customer Service with this Walgreens Coupon FAQs. Here are some highlights:

Can a customer use both a Manufacturer’s coupon and Walgreens coupon for the same item in a purchase?

  • One Walgreen and one manufacturer coupon can be used for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits such use.
  • Walgreens Roto Ad Coupons, Instant Value Coupons (IVC), and a manufacturer’s coupon can be used towards the purchase of any one item. “One coupon per purchase” means one coupon must be tendered for each PIECE sold.

What happens if the Manufacturer coupon’s value is more than the retail value?

  • Walgreens does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for more than the purchase value of the item (e.g., the customer is using the coupon to purchase a

clearance item).

  • If the retail of the item is less than the face value of the coupon:
  • the coupon value shall be the retail value if the state requires taxes to be paid on that item
  • the coupon value shall be the retail value plus taxes if the state does not require taxes to be paid on the item.

As you can see, you CAN use a manufacturer coupon AND a Walgreens coupon. I know a lot of you are told that Walgreens coupons are manufacturer coupons but they are not. They are store coupons and you can tell because they are only good at Walgreens.  If you were to take these coupons to another store they would not scan because they are program to work only at Walgreens. They have a particular barcode good only at Walgreens.

I have put this document into a Google Document in case you would like to print a copy and take with you. I would be surprised to hear that a manager has never seen this document before, or maybe I wouldn’t. View this document here.  And let’s hope Walgreens decides to come out with an official document soon.
