The Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee has been a pretty handy marketing strategy offered by Walmart for the past few years. Instead of having to fight other shoppers to snag one of a limited number of items, Black Friday shoppers can simply purchase a card guaranteeing their item will arrive by Christmas up to an hour after the start of the sale.

It sounds like the perfect Black Friday shopping strategy. However, there have been a few hiccups in the system in the last few years. The retailer did seem to iron out a most of the wrinkles last year, but frustrated shoppers still had issues.

If you’re new to the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee shopping strategy this year, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. We’ve been around the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee black a couple of times here at Common Sense With Money and we’ll do our best to help prepare you or (Black Friday gods forbid!) if you can’t register a Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee.

So, here’s what you NEED to know about the 2015 Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee items…

1. Only select items are available for the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee 2015 sale.

As in years past, not all items listed in the Walmart 2015 Black Friday ad will be guaranteed for 1 hour. The 2015 list of Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee deals is a bit smaller, but they’re still notable:

2. Walmart 2015 1 Hour Guarantee items are available in-stores only…maybe.

The 2015 Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee items are not supposed to be available online at all. However, in past years, a few of the deals have popped up online for a limited time. So, can you get 1 Hour Guarantee items online? Maybe. Maybe not. As I write this post, though, two of the 1 Hour Guarantee deals are as good as valid online—the Beats Studio Headphones for $169 and the LG 55” Class Smart 4K UHD TV for $697.99. That doesn’t mean that the other items will definitely be available online, but it’s certainly worth a look!

3. Map out your route ahead of time.

To save time and sanity, you’ll want to plan your route ahead of time. The best way to do this is take a look at your local Walmart’s Black Friday map. These maps show you the locations of all the hot deals this Black Friday, including the location of the 2015 Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee items.

4. Arrive early.

Just because the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee items are supposedly supposed to be guaranteed for one hour, that isn’t always the case. In the past, there have been many angry consumers who arrived before the hour was up only to find that they were unable to get their coveted item. You’ll still need to arrive at your local store before the sale starts to ensure that you really will be guaranteed that 1 Hour Guarantee item. Some stores have been known to hand out wristbands, which grant consumers the ability to obtain a 1 Hour Guarantee item, and those without wristbands go without goodies. The Walmart Black Friday sale starts at 6 PM on Thanksgiving evening. So, can you expect to saunter in at 6:45 and expect to snag a 1 Hour Guarantee deal? Probably not! Bottom line—get there early.

5. Don’t expect the exact item.

In the past, Walmart has been known to substitute “comparable” items for some 1 Hour Guarantee items at delivery. This most likely happened because they didn’t expect such an overwhelming response to the 1 Hour Guarantee and underestimated just how much merchandise they would need in the warehouse. Let’s take the LG 55” Class Smart 4K UHD TV, for instance. Don’t be totally shocked when you go to pick up your item and receive a different brand or an LG UHD TV with slightly different specs. This isn’t always a bad thing, though. In fact, many Walmart shoppers in the past have been pleasantly surprised when their Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee items were substituted with slightly better models!

6. Keep your receipts and any other paperwork when you purchase your 1 Hour Guarantee item!

When you receive a Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee item this year, you’ll most likely be given a slip of paper or card with a barcode. You need to give this to your cashier! The cashier will ring it up and hand you a receipt. You need to keep this receipt! I can’t stress these two points enough! Keep any and all receipts and paperwork that your cashier hands you at the end of the transaction. And, for the love of all that is holy, do make sure that your 1 Hour Guarantee item has been rung up BEFORE you leave the register! This was a pretty big problem one year, and people lost their 1 Hour Guarantee items because they did not hand the cashier the card to ring it up. Losing your receipt is also a very bad thing. Your receipt has something called a TC# printed at the bottom, which should look a little something like this…

You can also scan your receipt with the Walmart Savings Catcher app. That way you can have a backup of the receipt and TC#, if you happen to lose your paper receipt. But, before you leave the register, make sure that your receipt includes all of the 1 Hour Guarantee items and it states “KEEP YOUR RECEIPT FOR 1 HOUR GUARANTEE PICKUP”! This is important! If you don’t think that a 1 Hour Guarantee item has been rung up, make sure that you speak up and ask your cashier.

7. Know how to register your Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee.

After you have your receipt (which you won’t lose, will you?!) you’ll need to register your Walmart 2015 1 Hour Guarantee items. This is the easy part. (Hopefully.) All you have to do is head over to the Walmart website to register your purchase. It’s pretty straightforward. Just enter the TC# printed at the bottom of your receipt. You’ll either need to sign in to your Walmart account or create a new account.

8. Expect problems with the 1 Hour Guarantee.

I hate to be a Negative Nancy here, but problems with the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee aren’t exactly uncommon. So, this is a great time to hope for the best, but expect the worst! Chances are, though, if you can’t register the Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee receipt, the issues will sort themselves out.

The most common problem you’ll run into is an influx of traffic to the Walmart website from shoppers trying to register 1 Hour Guarantee items all at once. Most websites simply aren’t built to handle that sort of traffic. Just be patient and try again in a few hours. Or, wait a day and try again. Shoppers usually have a few days to register their 1 Hour Guarantee items. You have until 11:59 p.m. Central Time on Monday, November 30, 2015 to register your purchase.

If you’re still having issues, you can also try clearing the cookies and cache in your browser and trying to register your Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee item again. Or, try a different browser; a lot of shoppers had good luck with Google Chrome on a PC, not a mobile device. Finally, if all else fails and you still can’t register a Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee item, you can always try customer service. You can either head back to your local store and go to the Customer Service desk, or you can call 1-800-WALMART or email the Walmart customer service team.

Good luck to anyone trying to purchase or register a 2015 Walmart 1 Hour Guarantee item! let us know how it goes!
