5 Fun & Family Friendly Things to Do in Star Valley, Wyoming

As a family we love traveling to new destinations. Some of them require a long flight, but most require very little travel time in the car. Recently we returned from Star Valley, Wyoming. It’s the first time we have been there but definitely not the last. We already can’t want to go back! Check out these fun things you could do together as a family.

  1. Cottonwood Lake. This lake is hidden in the mountains and beautiful. We took our kayaks and spent the afternoon enjoying the scenery and kayaking around the lake. This is a cold water, mountain lake. So it’s not a good one for swimming. The roads are accessible by most vehicles. It is a dirt road with some big pot holes, but our van made it there just fine. We would definitely go back!
  2. Hike Intermittent Springs. This was such a fun hike for our family. It’s a short hike hike to an intermittent springs which means it actually turns off! It’s so cool. You can hike up to where the water turns on and off. You can check out more info here.
  3. Visit the Star Valley Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint Temple. Even if you aren’t a member of this church, this temple is absolutely beautiful. Walk around the grounds and enjoy the flowers.
  4. Float the Salt River. There are a lot of access points to the Salt River in Thayne or Afton. You will see signs everywhere showing you where to enter. Bring your tubes and enjoy floating down the river.
  5. Walk Main Street Afton. Here  you can enjoy the world’s largest Elkhorn arch.  You can also stop in at Star Valley Chocolates for a treat and check out their souvenir’s.

If you want a great place to stay then check out Cabin Creek Inn. These cute cabins have full bathrooms and AC. There is a heated pool and hot tub as well as FREE breakfast in the morning. The breakfast even has cinnamon rolls! The owners keep everything clean and orderly. We will come back again!
