Three Month Amazon Prime Trial for $1

Amazon-Prime-logo

Amazon is offering a free three month Trial of Amazon Prime when you buy eligible textbooks. This is available to accounts new to Amazon prime trials and to accounts that have had Amazon Prime trials in the past. Always looking for the best deal, I went on the hunt for some cheap books that were eligible for this offer and I got lucky. Follow these steps to get this free three month trial:

By default this free trial period will be set to automatically renew three months after you start at a cost of $79. But that’s very eay to change. Just follow this steps to turn off the auto-renewal:

  • On Amazon.com go to Your Account
  • Click Manage Prime Membership link
  • Click Do not Upgrade button and then click Turn off auto-upgrade button.

My one month trial just expired six days ago and now I just got another free trial period (three months this time) for $3.50.  Considering that the annual cost if $79, I think $3.50 for three months it’s a pretty good deal.

Thanks! This is awesome! I bought Romeo and Juliet for $1 and it worked just like you posted above!

  • I was not able to do this. They said they don’t allow this and that I was basically lying. My trial ended about a week ago. I told them that my “friend” did this and they denied it asking for your email address to check this out. Help!

    • Gina,

You tried to do this over the phone? did it not work for you when you tried it on the web? Just trying to be helpful here 🙂

      Mercedes

      • I tried doing this on line and the two day free shipping button didn’t show up so I called them. That’s when they told me I was lying. I’m going to try again because a few of the comments below suggest the button doesn’t show up til the last page.

        • It worked!!!!

  • Ashley

You do not need to make a purchase to get the 3 free months. Just add the item to your cart and then sign up for the Prime Trial and remove the item from your cart.

    • It does. But I’d rather pay $1 and not fear that my trial may get canceled because I took advantage of a loophole. I love the book I got anyways so I consider it win-win.

      Mercedes

  • Megan

I was able to sign up without actually purchasing the book, just like Ashley said. 🙂

  • Marc

worked like a charm, will give romeo and juliet to goodwill lol

  • Lana

May I ask what is Amazon Prime bonuses via 3 month trial versys regular Amazon.com? Shipping? Discounts? Thank you.

    • Hi Lana,

With Amazon Prime you get two day shipping with no minimum purchase requirement on eligible items. So that’s what you would be getting with this free trial offer that lasts three months. Regularly, Amazon offers free super saver shipping when you spend $25 or more in eligible items.

    Awesome! Worked great! Thanks!

  • Julie

I tried to do this, but the free trial button did not appear. My last free trial ending a week ago, too. What did I do wrong? I’d love to use this service again!

  • Do you have any idea when this deal will expire? I still have 8 days left on my one month free trial, so it doesn’t offer it to me yet. I’m hoping they will still be offering it next week, but who knows?

    🙂

  • Latifa

Worked great! I love prime!! Thanks 🙂

  • Cherlene

Has this been pulled? I’m trying to follow your directions, but after I put one of the books in my cart….I do not see the Free Two-Day shipping button on the right side of the page. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I used the month-long free trial offer for most of my Christmas shopping and it worked GREAT! Thanks!

  • Stacy

I am having the same problem as the last person mentioned — it is never offering me the option to sign up. 😛

  • Kara

For those that it is not working for, in the past you cannot do another free trial of Prime if you already had one. Try creating a new account with a new e-mail address.

  • Yay! This worked just great for me. 🙂 Thanks so much!

It didn’t work for me either. I have had the one month trial in the past but some others seemed to be using this one after using the one month one? I guess I could try for a second account if it comes to that.

  • Daniele

I did this and it worked fine. I had the free prime trial (ended on 12/22) on the same account and was able to get it again.

  • When I first clicked on the link the Free 2-day Shipping did not show up, but I signed out of my Amazon account and clicked on Mercedes’ link again and I was able to see the Free 2-day Shipping button. It let me sign in, get the free trial and order the book, but for some reason it didn’t give me the option when I was automatically signed in.

    Hope that helps someone!

    • Crissy S.

Rachel, It helped so much. Thank you!

  • dawn

My free trial ended on the 24th, and I just did it with this and it worked great. My offer didn’t come up until the very last order page when I check everything over, then it gave me a 2 day shipping option that I pay for, or a 2 day shipping option free amazon prime trial. When I selected the latter, the agreement popped up.
    thanks!

  • Patty

I had to clear out my cookies for the two-day shipping button to show up. Try that.

  • Brian

Worked for me as well, and I just removed Romeo and Juliet from my cart at the final step (after I signed up for Prime). 3 months free, and I didn’t have to spend a dime! Thanks!

  • Kathie

I also didn’t get the offer until the very last order page. Thanks for posting that Dawn, I might have given up if I hadn’t seen your comment since I wasn’t getting the offer earlier.

  • Jessie

Hurrah! Husband and I both updated our accounts to prime. I bought “The Picture of Dorian Grey” and he bought “The Hound of the Baskervilles”. (Dover Thrift books are best bet!)

does anyone know if this will work if I am currently subscribed to a free trial of amazon prime? mine doesn’t expire until mid-Jan…

    Thanks!

  • THanks so much for this, and for explaining how to turn off the automatic upgrade. I generally don’t do things like this because I know I’ll forget to cancel before it charges me. Can’t wait to read my book, and I”ll be checking out Amazon for deals for the next three months!

  • Veronica Hayes

Just did it, worked for me.

  • leslievw

Thank you! My trial membership just expired, this is such a treat! Thanks for the tip!

  • Amy

Whoo-hoo! I just got 3 month of free Amazon Prime, thank you! I just got A Tale of Two Cities and your instructions are easy to follow as well.

  • Erika

Thanks for sharing this! It worked like a charm and I was able to use my Christmas giftcard and get quick shipping for free too. Great deal!

  • I’m getting frustrated. No matter what I try, I can’t get the option to try Amazon Prime! grrrr.

    • Martha

Just click on one of the names of the books listed above and right under the add to cart button, you will see an option for Amazon Prime 2 day shipping – click that button and then you check out like normal (actually at that point it asked me for my log in information for Amazon.) I hit complete order and everything went through.

      • I think it may have been a problem with Opera. I tried it again with Internet Explorer, and it went right through the first time.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had problems with Opera, so I’m not surprised.

I just tried it – so easy!!! I just clicked on the Romeo and Juliet link above and it went right to the page to purchase the $1 book. Everything was as described above. Thanks so much for sharing!!!

  • Jenny

I just used this as well, easy to do. I tried ordering a book other than R&J, and was offered only a one month free trial of Amazon Prime. So I deleted that one, went with R&J, and da-da, 3 months free. I bet Amazon is wondering why the sudden rush on R&J, lol!

  • Lindsey

Thanks so much followed the links and worked like a charm.

I started, but it askes for a credit card#.
Seems like I have to input it, or is there any way to avoid it?
I have some $$ on Amazon gift cards, I checked it as away of payment, but system is not letting me through because of 3 m trial going to permanent so they can charge me later I think.
    Thank you.

  • Kim

I was not able to do it like some others here until I logged out of my account and used your links! Thank You!

  • Amy

I just did this but it only offered me 1 month free… Has anyone else had this problem? I am excited about the one month but just wish we were offered 3! Thanks

  • Tara

I had to log out and log back in and then it offered me the free 3 month trial in my cart. I too had the previous one month free trial that ended on the 22nd. But, like I said, I had to log out and back in to get it to offer it to me.

  • Please make sure that you cancel your Prime membership before the trial ends or you WILL be charged the regular $79 automatically when the renewal date comes up. I used to work for Amazon customer service and the majority of our phone calls were regarding a phantom $79 charge on the customer’s credit card which I would inform them was from their trial membership ending. This is all in the fine print but most customers would not realize this.
You can actually cancel the automatic renewal now by going into your account (found at the top right side of the amazon site), then look under Settings –> Account Settings –> Manage Prime Membership. Click on manage prime membership and it will direct you to an area to cancel the auto renewal on the membership. You will still be able to enjoy Prime benefits until the end of the trial but will not be charged when the trial ends.

    Enjoy!

January 16th and this is still working!

  • Maureen

Worked for me on Jan. 17. I had to log out of my account in order to see the free 2-day button. I did not complete the purchase but the free amazon prime went through.

  • Amy

Still works! My free 90-day trial from Oct 09 just ended. I logged out of my account, placed one of the above books in my cart, logged into my same account, and was able to get the free trial again. I did not have to actually buy the book. It only takes seconds to turn off auto-renew, as shown in previous comment. Thanks! I am loving Prime!

  • Selena

Just worked for me! I did just as Amy did above me, and it went smoothly. Thanks!!
