Creating an inviting outdoor space on a budget can seem a bit tricky at times. On one hand, you want an outdoor space that’s comfortable and functional, with enough room for your family and friends. On the other hand, finding cheap patio furniture can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack, especially when you have lots of people to accommodate!

The good news is, though, not all outdoor furniture costs an arm and a leg! There are a few different sources for some cheap patio furniture. Outfitting your own outdoor space is definitely possible with a patience and creativity.

#1. Think Outside the Patio

Patio furniture doesn’t necessarily have to be furniture designed for outdoor spaces. When looking for cheap patio furniture, do think outside the box. Rocking chairs, coffee tables, or even sofas might be fitting for your outdoor space. Just keep in mind that since this furniture is not designed to withstand the elements, it can degrade faster, especially if left exposed to the sun, rain, and snow. Indoor furniture as patio furniture is best on covered spaces or as a temporary solution.

#2. End of Season Clearance Sales

Toward the end of summer, most stores need to get rid of any surplus patio furniture to make way for fall and holiday merchandise. What’s this mean for the consumers? Cheap patio furniture on clearance! Start looking for cheap patio furniture on clearance starting in August. If you can afford to wait until early to mid autumn, though, you can often snag even better deals with outdoor furniture at half off or better!

#3. Thrift Stores

Make sure you make a swing by your local thrift stores each week when looking for cheap patio furniture. You can sometimes find perfectly good patio furniture or wooden dining room furniture for next to nothing! If it’s not what you’re looking for cosmetically, you can spruce it u with a few coats of paint and some new cushions.

#4. Yard Sales

Sometimes you can find used and cheap patio furniture at yard sales and garage sales. Again, you can always fix up old pieces to look new again. As long as the furniture is sturdy and in relatively decent shape, it could be a fabulous deal!

#5. Curbside Shopping

Some people shy away from “curbside shopping”, but it really is a great way to snag some free furniture when you have a teeny tiny budget. When driving through town, keep your eye out for furniture—patio or otherwise—left next to the road. Most people expect others to take what they leave on the curb, but if you feel funny about it, don’t hesitate to knock on the door and ask if you can take something first.

#6. Craigslist

Online classified ad sites like Craigslist can be a goldmine when you need cheap patio furniture! Sellers will often get rid of their old patio furniture for next to nothing, just to make way for a new set. They make a little money and you score some new (to you) cheap patio furniture—win, win!

#7. DIY It

If you’re handy and have access to some relatively inexpensive lumber, consider making your own patio furniture. Basic tables and benches are really simpler to make than they look, and they add a much more personal touch to your outdoor space than commercial patio furniture. If you can’t find raw lumber for cheap, you can also upcycle other wooden items, like old pallets, dressers, bed frames, and tables.
