We Will Never Forget

I am getting choked up just thinking it has been 10 years since the events that happened in our country on 9/11/01.  I am sure almost everyone can say they will remember exactly what they were doing when they first found out what was going on.  I also know that most of us will never forget.  I am not the best with words but I wanted you to know that like you my heart is heavy today with the memories.

Happy Father’s Day

Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father!  ~Lydia M. Child, Philothea: A Romance, 1836

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there :-)

Happy Mother’s Day from One Mom to Another

Not the Blogher Wrap Up I Had in Mind

I am making my way home right now via train. The Acela Express should have me there in a few hours. However, home will not be as I left it. Our male pug Diego passed away a few hours ago from a sudden heart complication. He was only seven years old and was not sick at all. It was just so sudden and I am sad I did not even have a chance to say good bye.

He is survived by Gracie his partner in mischief. I hope she doesn’t get too depressed. If you have pets you know how hard it is to lose a pet.

Thank You Plus Three More Free Ways to Help Haiti

I just wanted to thank you for helping me help Haiti.  I am six comments away from hitting my goal but I went ahead and already donated my goal.  I feel very grateful for being able to count on your help with this.  You can click here to see the receipt for this donation.

I also wanted to share three more ways you can help for free (well, one of them is free after coupons but still the same):

::: You can donate your Recycle Bank Rewards.  After you sign up for Recycle Bank, click on Get rewards. On the left side you will see “Donations.”

:::  You can also donate Swagbucks.

::: Jenny over at Southern Savers has put together a list of places taking item donations at this time.  This is a good chance to donate some of your HBA stockpile.

If you can’t donate anything at this time, just say a prayer for these people because they need it.

God Bless!

Haiti Drive: Leave a Comment on This Post to Donate for Free

Over these past few days my heart has been heavy after hearing the news coming from Haiti.  See, 11 years ago a devastating hurricane hit my home country of Honduras killing thousands of people and destroying a lot of the infrastructure through out the country.  When I heard the news coming from Haiti I couldn’t help but thinking of everything I felt 11 years ago while watching the devastation on TV and with my own eyes,  the people lost, those alive with their belongings destroyed or wondering if everyone in their families had survived.

Eleven years ago people around the world open their hearts for my country and their people and it is not my turn to do the same for the people of Haiti.  You can help too:

1)  Lift the people of Haiti and their families abroad in prayer.

2)  If you can’t give now consider saving a small amount of money to give later.  Unfortunately help will be needed for a long time for the people of Haiti to recover from this.

3)  You can give for free here, right now.  My family is pledging $1 for every comment left in this post up to 500 comments.  For a total donation of $500 that will go to the Red Cross.

Thank you for your comment and for helping me help others.  Please remember to share this with others so they can also come here and comment and help me reach my goal.

If you are looking for organizations that are accepting donations check out:

Sovereign Grace Ministries
Compassion International
Numana
American Red Cross

This post is also part of a linkup.  If you have a blog and are doing something to help Haiti please leave your link to your post below.  If you don’t have a blog you can share how you are helping in the comments section.  If you are a reader you are welcome to click through to help others help Haiti.

I have been gone all morning to find out very important information.  I had my “big” ultrasound today and you probably guessed it by now:  It’s a healthy girl!  After two boys,a husband and a boy dog, this household needed some balance.

Anybody having a garage sale soon?  I am starting over in the girl clothing department.  Although I hope to use a few items from the boys.

Stylish on a Budget

Mom Generations

Who says you have to sacrifice style when you don’t want to spend too much?  I did.  For years, I have avoided buying stylish clothes and accessories and instead bought “safe” pieces I thought could be worn across the years.  But lately I have been feeling tired of my style (or lack of it).

I want to change and for tips on how to look better for less I turned to the fashion expert herself: Audrey from MomGenerations.  Audrey is a mom of four boys aged four and under.  But before that she worked for many years for Donna Karan in NYC.  If anyone knows fashion, it’s her.  I asked for her help because she is currently doing “365 Days of Fashion Advice” on her blog.  Her purpose is to give moms simple advice to help them look fabulous.

So, I gave her a cold call, really, I felt like a telemarketer.  Well it was actually an email.  I asked if she would be willing to give me personal advice, and she agreed!  She asked me to create a video showing her what I have.  This was important because I can’t invest in a new full wardrobe and wanted to just add certain pieces to it.  Yesterday she posted her fashion advice on video.  I hope you will stop by and watch it because the advice is very good and applicable to anyone.

Doesn’t it feel like an episode from What not to Wear?  Except that now I have to go shopping for the items she suggested I buy.  I am already thinking I could find some good deals at TJMaxx or Marshall’s.  If you guys are interested I could create a conclusion video like they do on What not to Wear, show the new and improved me. What do you think?.

If you are feeling tired of your style or maybe lack one like I do.  Please stop by Audrey’s blog to get some fashion advice.  You may also want to subscribe to her feed to get her advice delivered to your reader of choice.

Thank you Audrey for your time in putting together these tips for me.

Giving Thanks By Giving Back

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you are having a great Thanksgiving day. Even though I won’t be celebrating with my family today I want to still give thanks.

This past year my family has been truly blessed. We had a new baby boy come join our family last December. We have been healthy and despite the current economic situation we have been able to increase the amount of savings we have. That’s why when Amy from MomAdvice called for others to help make a difference in our own towns I took her up on her offer. Within days I was able to put together the six boxes and four bags of food and health and beauty items you see above. This is what I took to my local Salvation Army.

I am not going to stop here though, there’s no reason. If you have been reading this blog for a while you know it seems there is always something free after coupon at some store. I feel that my effort and time in obtaining those free items is the least I can do to help others who have been less lucky in life than I have been. In the immediate future, with the help of a sponsor I will be sponsoring two families’ holidays, including meal and gifts for the family.

You can help too. You probably often see free offers for items that maybe your family doesn’t use or need. If they are free pick them up anyway. Even if is just one item a week you are able to get free, after a few weeks you are likely to have collected a box to make a difference for someone. It just takes one person and a little bit of effort to help make someone’s present better.
